Timbuktu is a dry, smoky, woody fragrance from L'Artisan Parfumeur, composed by Bertrand Duchaufour and released in 2004, worn by anyone. Woody is how everyone describes it, most also find it spicy and resinous, and about a third notice sweet or ambery touches.
Mango opens the scent, green and slightly resinous rather than sweet, and pink pepper and cardamom add a dry, aromatic spice. In the heart, papyrus brings a dry, smoky, almost burnt-paper woodiness, incense a cool, resinous smoke, and karo karounde, an African flower, a strange, slightly animalic floral note. The base is dry rather than sweet: vetiver adds a rooty, earthy smokiness, patchouli depth, and myrrh and benzoin a bitter-sweet, balsamic resin.
Wearers mostly report moderate longevity and moderate sillage. It is voted mainly for daytime, in autumn and spring, which suits a dusty, incense-led scent for anyone who prefers smoke and dry woods to sweetness.
