L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme, created by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud for Issey Miyake in 1994, is a citrus-fresh men's scent with a spiced, woody drydown. Everyone who describes it calls it citrus, most add spicy and woody, and a good share mention floral and aromatic facets.
The opening is a bright, slightly bitter burst of yuzu, lemon, mandarin and bergamot, given a herbal, green edge by cypress, tarragon, sage and lemon verbena, and a faint watery lift from calone. The heart is more surprising, with blue lotus and lily of the valley adding a clean, watery floral note while nutmeg, Ceylon cinnamon and saffron bring a dry, warm spice and geranium a rosy-green sharpness. The base of cedar, Tahitian vetiver and sandalwood is dry and smooth, with tobacco, amber and musk adding a soft warmth that keeps the finish from being thin.
Most people find the longevity moderate and the sillage moderate, so it stays close and clean. It is voted equally for spring and summer and strongly for daytime, which makes it a dependable, fresh scent for warm weather and the office.
