Archives 69 is a 2011 composition by Christine Nagel for the French house Etat Libre d'Orange, worn by anyone. Everyone who describes it finds it spicy, sweet, floral, resinous, ambery and citrusy all together, which hints at how much is going on.
It opens with mandarin orange, pink pepper and paprika, a juicy citrus brightness with a warm, dusty, slightly sweet spice behind it. The heart is plum, orchid and incense: a dark, jammy fruit, a creamy, slightly powdery flower, and a dry, smoky resin that keeps the sweetness in check. The base adds camphor, a cool, medicinal note that is the composition's oddest touch, over benzoin, musk and patchouli for a resinous, soft, earthy finish.
Most wearers find its longevity moderate, with about a fifth calling it long lasting. Projection is moderate for most people and intimate for a quarter. It is voted mainly for autumn, then spring, and slightly more for day than night, which suggests a close-wearing, strange and comfortable scent for someone who likes plum and incense with a camphor twist.
