Dune, released by Dior in 1991 and composed by Dominique Ropion, Jean-Louis Sieuzac and Nejla Barbir, is a floral with a dry, salty, ambery feel. People describe it as floral above all, woody for about half, with citrus, fresh, resinous and amber facets noted by a minority.

It opens with aldehydes and mandarin over bergamot, peony and Brazilian rosewood, a slightly soapy, airy start. The heart is a bouquet of rose, jasmine, lily, ylang-ylang and wallflower, full but not sweet. The base is where its character lies: oakmoss and patchouli for a dry, earthy ground, sandalwood for smoothness, and benzoin, amber and vanilla for a warm, resinous glow that never turns gourmand.

Most wearers report long-lasting performance, and about half find the sillage moderate while a third call it strong. It is voted for autumn first and then summer, and leans towards daytime. It suits someone who wants warmth without sweetness.
