Ambre Noir by Brecourt, composed by Emilie Bouge in 2010, is a floral amber for women that is resinous, warm and powdery. People describe it as floral, resinous and amber-like in equal measure, and about half also find it woody, musky and citrusy.

Bergamot opens it briefly, bright and slightly bitter, before the amber takes over. Labdanum and French labdanum are the heart of it, a dark, resinous, slightly leathery amber with a faint sweetness, and myrrh adds a dry, bitter, balsamic resin beside them. Magnolia is the floral note, fresh and lemony, which lifts the resins, and orris root adds a cool, powdery elegance. The base is vanilla for sweetness, sandalwood for a creamy wood, musk for softness and amber for a long, warm finish.

It reads as a cold-weather, evening fragrance in the classic amber tradition, refined rather than heavy, suited to someone who likes labdanum and iris together and wants an amber with powder and a floral edge.
