My New York by Bond No 9, composed by Michel Almairac and released in 2020, is a dry, spiced woody fragrance. Everyone who describes it calls it woody; about half add spicy, and a minority find it floral or resinous.
Eight notes are listed without a pyramid. Ginger and pink pepper open with a bright, fizzy heat, ginger zesty and slightly lemony, pink pepper rosy and sharp. Elemi adds a lemony, resinous, incense-like lift. Rose sits quietly in the middle, more a tint than a bouquet. The base is where the weight is: papyrus brings a dry, smoky, slightly dusty wood, patchouli an earthy depth, sandalwood a creamy warmth, and cashmeran a soft, musky, velvety finish.
It is worn by anyone. Community reports on longevity and sillage have not yet been gathered. The spiced, resinous wood suits autumn and winter and evenings, and will appeal to someone who likes clean, modern woods with a little incense rather than sweetness or florals.
