Cruz del Sur I from the Italian house Xerjoff, composed by Miroslav Petkov and released in 2017 for anyone to wear, is a spicy, boozy amber. Everyone who describes it calls it spicy, and most add sweet, woody, resinous, amber or leather, which points to a dense, warm, old-world composition.
The notes are many and listed together. Rum and grapes give a boozy, wine-like opening, with bergamot adding a brief citrus lift. Cinnamon, cloves and cumin bring a dry, warm, slightly earthy spice, and dried fruits add a dark, sticky sweetness. The base is heavy with resins and animal notes: labdanum, incense and myrrh for leathery, smoky, bitter warmth, castoreum and leather for a smooth animal depth, and cedar, sandalwood and amber for wood and glow.
Reports on how it wears are still few. Its character belongs to winter and evenings, for someone who likes rich, spiced, resinous perfumes with a boozy, leathery edge and does not mind a bold statement.
