Acqua di Selva by Visconti di Modrone dates from 1949 and is a classic aromatic woody fragrance for men: woods and herbs lead in equal measure, most people also notice citrus, and about a third pick up spice, greenery and florals.
Lemon and bergamot open with a crisp citrus, backed by lavender, basil and rosemary for a herbal, almost kitchen-garden freshness. The heart turns green and resinous with pine, clary sage and thyme, while geranium adds a rosy, slightly minty note and cloves a gentle warmth. In the base, vetiver and peat give an earthy, smoky dryness, finished with cedar and a little musk.
It is an old-school, outdoorsy scent that suits daytime, the office and spring or summer weather. It suits someone who likes traditional barbershop-style colognes with an earthy, forest-like depth.
