Layton, composed for Parfums de Marly by Hamid Merati-Kashani in 2016, is woody and floral in equal measure and worn by anyone. About two thirds of wearers also find it spicy, gourmand and citrusy, with an aromatic edge for a third.
It opens with apple, bergamot and mandarin orange for a crisp, sweet brightness, and lavender for a clean aromatic lift. The heart is a soft floral of violet, jasmine and geranium, powdery and slightly green. The base is long and warm: vanilla and coumarin bring a sweet, almond-like depth, cardamom and pepper a dry spice, guaiac wood and sandalwood a smooth, faintly smoky wood, and patchouli with Ambermax a dark, radiant amber that lasts.
Most wearers call it long lasting, and sillage splits almost evenly between strong and moderate. It is voted for autumn and winter and equally for night and day, which suits a warm, sweet-spicy scent for cold weather at any hour.
