Soleil de Capri is Montale's straightforward summer citrus, released in 2007 and composed by Pierre Montale. Everyone who describes it says citrus, and only a third add spicy, musky or floral, which tells you how single-minded it is.

The opening is grapefruit, kumquat and a general wash of citruses, sharp, sunny and a little bitter in the way of fruit peel rather than sweet juice. The heart is a light layer of white flowers that softens the edges without taking over. The base is musk and spices, a gentle warmth that keeps the citrus hanging on the skin longer than a plain cologne would.

It is worn by anyone. Most wearers report moderate longevity, with a quarter finding it long lasting, and sillage is moderate for the large majority. Summer is the season by a wide margin, spring next, and it is voted overwhelmingly for day. It suits hot weather, holidays and anyone who wants a bright, uncomplicated citrus that lasts through a morning.
