Black pepper and pepper give a dry, sharp, lively heat from the start, and lemon adds a clean citrus brightness beside them. Geranium brings a rosy, slightly minty green note to the heart. The base turns warm and sweet: tonka bean adds a nutty, vanilla-like sweetness, labdanum a dark, resinous, slightly honeyed depth, and patchouli an earthy, woody darkness that balances the sweetness.
