Boss Selection by Hugo Boss, from 2006, is a clean woody-citrus fragrance for men. Wood and citrus lead equally, with lighter spicy, musky, floral and leather facets.

The opening is bright and sparkling: bergamot, mandarin orange and grapefruit give a sharp citrus freshness, while pink pepper adds a peppery lift. In the heart, cedar needles bring a green, resinous coolness, geranium a slightly rosy and minty floral note, and star anise a cool liquorice-like spice. The base settles on vetiver for dry earthiness, patchouli for depth and musk for a smooth, clean finish.

Most wearers report moderate longevity, though some find it weak, and the trail is moderate to intimate. It is voted for summer and spring, mainly for daytime. Boss Selection suits office wear, warm days and casual weekends, for someone who wants an easy, fresh woody scent that feels neat and professional without much projection.
