Boss Bottled Night, released by Hugo Boss in 2010, is a lean, dark masculine built from only a handful of notes. Everyone who describes it uses the same five words: woody, musky, floral, aromatic and leathery, which tells you how closely those facets are fused.
Lavender and birch open it, a clean herbal note set against a dry, tarry wood that gives the fragrance its slightly smoky, leather-like character. Violet sits alone in the heart, soft and powdery, and keeps the composition from feeling too hard. The base is simply woods and musk, warm and skin-like, with the birch still faintly present.
Most wearers find the longevity moderate and about a quarter call it long lasting; the sillage is moderate, intimate for some. Autumn and spring share the seasonal votes and, true to its name, it is worn more at night than in the day. It suits evenings out and cooler weather, for someone who wants a dark scent that stays understated.
