Venenum Kiss is a spiced rose over amber, composed by Quentin Bisch for Ex Nihilo in 2015. Everyone who describes it calls it spicy, floral and amber-like; about half also find it sweet and woody.
It opens with saffron and nutmeg, a dry, leathery spice and a warm, slightly bitter one, lifted by the clean orange-flower brightness of neroli. The heart is rose set against amber, a rich, slightly jammy flower on a warm resinous cushion, with artemisia adding a bitter, herbal green note that stops it becoming too sweet. The base is sandalwood, vanilla and styrax: creamy wood, soft sweetness and a balsamic, faintly smoky resin that gives the drydown its depth.
Venenum Kiss is worn by anyone. It is an evening and cool-weather scent by character, warm and a little dramatic, and it suits people who like spiced roses in the oriental style rather than fresh or green ones.
