Corallium, from the Italian house Carthusia and released in 2010, is a Mediterranean citrus with a woody, resinous underside. Citrus is the description everyone agrees on; three quarters also call it woody, about half musky, and a quarter each green, resinous or ambery.

Calabrian bergamot and Italian mandarin open it with a bright, sunny sparkle. Bay leaf and sage give the middle a dry, herbal, slightly savoury character, the kind of green that comes from kitchen herbs rather than leaves. As the citrus fades, cedar and patchouli take over with a clean, dry woodiness, and myrrh and resins add a faintly bitter, balsamic warmth that is more interesting than the usual sweet amber finish. White musk softens the ending.

It is a shared fragrance, worn by anyone. The profile suggests warm weather and daytime, when the citrus and herbs read as refreshing, while the resinous base gives it more staying presence than a simple cologne.
