Herrera For Men, released by Carolina Herrera in 1991 and composed by Carlos Benaïm and Rosendo Mateu, is an aromatic, spicy men's scent in the classic style of its decade. Everyone who describes it calls it aromatic, about two thirds add spicy and floral, and a third note woody, amber or citrus sides.
It opens with herbs and citrus: rosemary and lavender give a clean, slightly camphorous freshness, lemon and neroli a bright, soapy lift. The heart is warmer and more old-fashioned, with cloves adding a sharp, medicinal spice, geranium a rosy, green edge and clover a soft, hay-like sweetness. The base settles into sandalwood, tobacco and ambergris, so the drydown is creamy, slightly smoky and salty-warm, with the tobacco giving it a mature, dressed character.
Most wearers report it as long lasting or moderate, with a generally moderate sillage. It is voted for autumn and spring and splits evenly between day and night, suggesting a versatile, grown-up scent for someone who prefers barbershop herbs and spice to sweetness.
