Wood Jasmin, from BDK Parfums in 2016, was composed by Camille Leguay. Floral is how everyone describes it; most also call it sweet, more than half ambery, and a good share woody, with a resinous touch noticed by a minority.

The notes are listed together rather than in stages, and jasmine is the centre, present as Egyptian jasmine and jasmine sambac, so it is both the softer, greener kind and the heady, slightly indolic one. Turkish rose adds a second flower, and plum and pear give a ripe, juicy fruitiness that explains the sweetness people report. Beneath them, Madagascar vanilla, Peru balsam and labdanum bring a warm, resinous, ambery sweetness, patchouli adds earth, incense a thread of dry smoke, and artemisia a faint bitter-green counterpoint that stops it from becoming syrupy.

It is worn by anyone. Despite the name, the wood here is a supporting frame; what comes forward is a sweet, ripe jasmine wrapped in vanilla and resin.
