Musc Immortel is a woody musk from the French niche house Atelier des Ors, composed by Marie Salamagne and released in 2017. Everyone who describes it calls it woody and about two-thirds musky; a third find a green, floral or citrus side.
The notes are not split into stages. Grapefruit gives a bitter, bright opening and clary sage a herbal, slightly sweet greenness. Iris brings a cool, powdery softness in the middle, and immortelle, the note in the name, a warm, dry, almost maple-like quality. The base combines Haitian vetiver, earthy and smoky, with cypriol oil, which adds a woody, leathery darkness, and patchouli; ambrette and musk wrap it all in a soft, skin-like finish.
Musc Immortel is shared and worn by anyone. The dry, earthy woods and powdery iris sit well in autumn and winter and in the evening, and suit someone who likes musks with character rather than clean laundry musks. It is sold in a 100 ml bottle.
