Jubilation XXV Man, composed for Amouage by Bertrand Duchaufour in 2007, is a woody fragrance for men with strong spicy and resinous sides; about half of wearers also find it gourmand, green and floral.
It opens on frankincense and labdanum, smoky and resinous, brightened by blackberry, orange, coriander and tarragon, so the first minutes are both fruity and herbal. The heart is warm and dense: clove, cinnamon and bay leaf bring spice, honey adds a thick sweetness, rose and orchid a floral softness, and guaiac wood a hint of smoke. The base is a long, dark drydown of oud, myrrh, patchouli, oakmoss and immortelle, with ambergris and musk underneath.
Longevity splits between moderate and long lasting. Sillage is moderate for about half and intimate for a third, so it sits closer than the ingredient list might suggest. It is voted for autumn and winter and slightly more for night, which suits a rich, contemplative scent for cold evenings.
