Heritage Eau de Toilette by the French house Guerlain, released in 1992 and composed by Jean-Paul Guerlain, is a classic spiced floral for men. Everyone who describes it calls it floral, and a sizeable minority also find it spicy, green, woody, amber-like or citrusy.

Bergamot, lemon and lavender give a clean, bright, slightly aldehydic opening, with juniper berries and clary sage adding a dry, herbal edge and violet a hint of powder. The heart is where its character lies: carnation, rose and jasmine form a rich, old-fashioned bouquet, with orris root adding a cool powderiness, pepper and coriander a warm spice, and patchouli an earthy depth. Sandalwood, cedar and oakmoss build a dry, mossy wood in the base, with amber and musk adding a warm, smooth finish.

Most wearers find Heritage long lasting with a moderate projection. It is voted mainly for autumn and winter and splits evenly between day and night, suiting a cool-weather scent for someone who appreciates traditional, well-made masculine perfumery.
