Preludio, from the Italian house Gritti, is an aromatic woody scent worn by anyone. Everyone who describes it calls it woody, two thirds find it aromatic, and a minority mention musky, fresh, amber and citrus sides.
Lemon and watermelon open it, the lemon sharp and clean, the watermelon adding a cool, watery, slightly sweet freshness. Lavender and borage give the heart its herbal character: lavender with its familiar clean, slightly soapy aroma, borage with a green, cucumber-like coolness. Pine adds a resinous, forest freshness. The base is warmer and drier, with tobacco bringing a sweet, hay-like depth, sandalwood a creamy wood, amber a soft resinous glow, and musk a smooth finish.
The contrast of cool watery notes and herbs against tobacco and wood gives it range. It suits daytime in mild weather and evenings in cooler months, and should appeal to people who like aromatic, green-leaning woods with a hint of sweetness at the end.
