Givenchy III is a green floral chypre in the classic style, with aldehydes, galbanum and oakmoss framing a full bouquet. Raymond Chaillan and Jean-Francois Latty composed it for Givenchy in 1970, and it is marketed to women. Floral is the dominant impression, with woodiness noticed by more than a third and green, citrus and fruity sweetness by about a quarter.

The opening is sharp and bracing: galbanum brings a bitter, snapped-stem greenness, aldehydes a sparkling, soapy lift, and bergamot and peach a brief fruity warmth. The heart is a dense, old-fashioned bouquet in which rose, jasmine, hyacinth and narcissus stand out, with orris root giving a cool, powdery depth. The base of oakmoss, patchouli and vetiver is dry, earthy and slightly bitter, softened by sandalwood and a touch of amber.

Most wearers report moderate longevity and moderate projection. Spring leads the season votes, with autumn second, and it is worn mainly in the daytime, which suits a structured, grown-up scent for work and formal daytime occasions.
