Cedar Malaki from the Swiss house Chopard, created by Alberto Morillas in 2023, is a woody fragrance first and foremost; wood is what almost everyone notices, with spice, resin, aromatic herbs, citrus and a touch of sweetness each mentioned by a minority.

Grapefruit and cardamom give the opening a bright, slightly bitter lift, and lavender with artemisia adds a dry, herbal edge. The centre is cedar in two forms, Atlas cedar and plain cedar, sharpened by cypress so that it smells like fresh-cut, resinous wood rather than a polished panel. Underneath, labdanum and cypriol bring a dark, smoky, leathery depth, patchouli adds earth and tonka bean softens everything with a faint warmth.

It is worn by anyone, and it reads as a composed, grown-up wood for someone who wants presence without sweetness. The dry, resinous character sits most naturally in autumn and winter and in the evening, though the citrus keeps it wearable during the day.
