Poivre Sacré is a spice-led fragrance from Caron, released in 2022 and worn by anyone. Spicy is the word everyone uses, about half also call it resinous, and a third find it woody or floral; a few notice amber as well.
Pepper is the centre of it, hot, dry and slightly woody, and it is surrounded by other spices: coriander, nutmeg and a pinch of cumin, the last adding a warm, faintly sweaty earthiness that gives the scent an unusual human edge. Saffron contributes its leathery, slightly bitter warmth. Rose sits in the middle, not as a pretty flower but as a dark, slightly jammy counterweight to all the heat. Frankincense then brings a dry, lemony, church-like smoke, with labdanum adding a sweeter resinous depth beneath it.
It is a confident, cold-weather scent, better for evenings than offices, for anyone who likes pepper and incense and does not mind a little rawness.
