Roses on Ice

Roses on Ice, created by Frank Voelkl for By Kilian in 2020, is a cool, crisp rose with a gin-like freshness. Woods and freshness lead equally, and about half of people also notice spice, greenery, flowers and citrus.

The opening is bracing: lime and juniper berries give a sharp, gin-and-tonic zest, cucumber a cool, watery crunch, violet leaf a green crispness and pink pepper a light sparkle. The heart brings rose with ozonic notes, so the petals feel airy, chilled and almost dewy rather than rich. The base combines sandalwood, cedar, musk and Ambroxan, a clean, dry and softly ambery woodiness.
