Gioco all'Alba, or play at dawn, by Bois 1920 (2024) is sweet and woody in equal measure, with spice, musk, herbs and leather each noticed by about half of those who describe it.
Whiskey and davana give a boozy, dried-fruit opening, while saffron adds a warm, golden spice. Peat brings a smoky, earthy, slightly medicinal note, like an Islay whisky, and boronia a fruity, slightly violet-like floral touch. The heart and base are warm and textured: tobacco gives a dry, honeyed warmth, leather a supple texture, cedar and guaiac wood a dry, smoky wood, and vanilla, sugar and musk a soft, sweet finish.
It is shared and can be worn by anyone. Gioco all'Alba suits autumn and winter, evenings, bars and cosy nights by the fire, and should appeal to people who love smoky whisky and tobacco scents with a sweet vanilla base.
