Myrrh Oud by the Italian house The Merchant of Venice, released in 2024, is a resinous, floral oud with a liquorice twist. Everyone who describes it calls it resinous; about two thirds also find it floral, and a minority notice gourmand, woody or citrus sides.

Bergamot and elemi open it with a bright, lemony resin, and liquorice adds a dark, aniseed-tinged sweetness that gives the start its character. The heart is myrrh, bitter, balsamic and slightly earthy, softened by orange blossom and rose, which bring a honeyed, slightly jammy floral warmth. The base is agarwood, labdanum and tonka bean: a deep, resinous wood wrapped in a sticky, ambery sweetness with a creamy, almond-like finish.

Myrrh Oud is worn by anyone. Its density suits autumn and winter and evening wear, and it will appeal to someone who likes incense and resin scents and wants oud presented through myrrh and flowers rather than smoke and leather.
