Quelques Fleurs l'Original by Houbigant, composed by Robert Bienaimé in 1912, is one of the earliest multi-floral bouquets and still reads as a dense, classic floral. Everyone describes it that way; a quarter also notice sweetness and citrus, and a minority green, musky and leathery sides.
It opens with citrus, bergamot and lemon, sharpened by tarragon and green notes, with orange blossom giving an early floral sweetness. The heart is a full garden: rose, jasmine, tuberose and ylang-ylang for richness, lilac, violet and lily of the valley for a soft, spring-like freshness, carnation for a clove-like spice, and orris root and heliotrope for powder. The base is warm and old-fashioned in the best sense, with honey, vanilla and tonka bean for sweetness, oakmoss and sandalwood for dryness, and civet, musk and ambergris for a soft animalic hum.
