Diva by Emanuel Ungaro, composed by Jacques Polge in 1983, is a big, rich floral in the opulent style of its decade. Everyone describes it as floral; a third also find it woody, and smaller groups notice spice, sweetness, a fresh edge and citrus.

The opening pairs Indian tuberose with mandarin and bergamot, sharpened by aldehydes for a sparkling, slightly soapy lift and by cardamom and coriander for a dry spice. The heart is where it becomes grand: Turkish and Moroccan rose together, carnation adding a clove-like warmth, orris root a cool, powdery elegance and narcissus a green, almost animalic depth. The base is long and warm, with honey and vanilla for sweetness, sandalwood and patchouli for woodiness, oakmoss for a dry, mossy bitterness and a trace of civet to give it skin and presence.

Most wearers report that it lasts very long and projects strongly, with a good number calling it enormous. It is voted mainly for winter and autumn and splits evenly between day and night. This is a fragrance for people who like to make a statement.

Diva — unisex fragrance by Emanuel Ungaro (released 1983). Top notes: Aldehydes, Indian Tuberose, Coriander, Cardamom, Bergamot, Mandarin Orange.
