Souffle des Indes is a sweet citrus from Comptoir Sud Pacifique, released in 2011 and worn by anyone. Everyone who describes it calls it citrus, two thirds find it gourmand, and a minority mention spicy, floral, resinous and amber.

Mandarin orange, bergamot and kumquat open it with a sweet, zesty brightness, and blackcurrant adds a tart, slightly green fruitiness. Cardamom gives the heart a warm, aromatic spice, and jasmine a soft floral layer. The base is where the sweetness builds: vanilla, creamy and smooth; benzoin, a balsamic resin that leans towards caramel; amber, warm and glowing; and teak wood, which adds a dry, slightly smoky wooden edge that keeps the drydown from being pure sugar.

The move from bright citrus to warm, spiced sweetness gives it a longer story than a simple cologne. It suits daytime in mild weather and evenings in cooler months, and will appeal to anyone who likes citrus with a vanilla-and-resin finish.
