Black Incense Malaki by Chopard is a dark, smoky amber from 2020 that anyone can wear. Everyone who describes it calls it amber, and about two thirds also find it spicy and woody, with a third mentioning resinous and leather facets, so expect warmth, smoke and depth rather than sweetness.

Frankincense is the centre of the fragrance, the dry, slightly citrusy smoke of church incense, supported by other resins that add a balsamic warmth. Agarwood brings a rich, slightly medicinal woodiness, leather a smooth, animalic edge, and a run of spices keeps the whole thing from feeling cold. Smoke and woody notes tie it together into something dense and quietly serious.

Nearly half of wearers find it long lasting, with a quarter reporting moderate longevity. Sillage splits almost evenly between moderate and strong. It is voted for winter first and autumn second, and strongly for night, which makes it a cold-weather evening scent for someone who likes incense and resin over fruit and flowers.
