Pink pepper and saffron give the opening a bright, rosy fizz and a warm, leathery spice. Galbanum adds a sharp, green, slightly bitter resin. The heart is nard, also known as jatamansi or Himalayan spikenard, an ancient aromatic root with an earthy, musty, slightly animalic and valerian-like scent, deep and grounding. Incense brings a dry, smoky haze. The base is woody: cedar, including Virginia cedar, gives a crisp dryness, sandalwood a creamy smoothness and patchouli an earthy richness.
