L'Eau d'Armoise is a sparse, herbal cologne from Serge Lutens, released in 2019 and worn by anyone. Citrus is the only accord people use for it, and the note list is just as spare: bergamot, artemisia and immortelle.

Bergamot gives the opening a bright, slightly bitter citrus lift, the familiar cologne start. Artemisia, the wormwood of the name, follows quickly with a bitter, silvery, herbal greenness that is cooler and more austere than most citrus scents allow, and it is this note that gives the fragrance its character. Immortelle sits beneath, adding a dry, faintly honeyed, hay-like warmth that softens the bitterness and gives the dry-down a little body without turning it sweet.

The result is a clean, slightly severe scent for daytime, best in warm weather when its bitterness feels refreshing rather than cold. It suits anyone who finds ordinary citrus colognes too sweet and wants something herbal and pared back. People who enjoy wormwood and bitter greens will see the appeal straight away.
