Juniper Sling from Penhaligon's, released in 2011 and composed by Olivier Cresp, is a spicy, gin-inspired fragrance. Spice leads, with sweetness next and lighter green, floral, leather and citrus notes.
The opening captures the feel of a gin cocktail: juniper berries bring a crisp, piney, slightly resinous note, angelica a fresh, earthy-green herbal tone, orange a citrus lift and cinnamon a warm spice. The heart adds orris root for a dry, powdery coolness, leather for a smooth texture, and pepper and cardamom for an aromatic sparkle. The base is lightly sweet, with sugar and cherry suggesting a cocktail garnish, amber adding warmth and vetiver a dry, grassy finish.
Performance is modest by most accounts: many find it weak or very weak, and the sillage is mostly intimate. It is voted for summer and spring and is mainly a daytime scent. It suits relaxed warm afternoons and garden parties. It is worn by anyone who enjoys light, aromatic spirits-inspired scents.
