Bluebell, released by Penhaligon's in 1978 and composed by Michael Pickthall, is presented as feminine and is mainly floral, with a spicy side and smaller green and citrus touches.

It is a portrait of an English woodland in spring. Citruses open with a brief, bright lift. The heart is a fresh, green bouquet: hyacinth brings the distinctive green, slightly bitter and watery floral note of bluebells, lily of the valley a dewy freshness, cyclamen a transparent softness, and rose and jasmine a gentle sweetness. The base is unusual: galbanum gives a sharp, green and resinous note, and cloves and cinnamon a warm, slightly medicinal spice that adds depth.

Wearers are split between moderate and long-lasting, and most describe its sillage as moderate, with some finding it strong. It is voted overwhelmingly for spring, and largely as a daytime scent. It suits the office, daytime events and spring walks, for someone who likes green, natural florals with a slightly old-fashioned English charm, and who wants a scent that smells convincingly of fresh flowers.

Bluebell — unisex fragrance by Penhaligon's (released 1978). Top notes: Citruses. Heart notes: Hyacinth, Lily-of-the-Valley, Rose, Cyclamen, Jasmine. Base notes: Galbanum, Cloves, Cinnamon. — Parfica open fragrance database
