Suede Orris is a 2019 fragrance from Molton Brown, composed by Jérôme di Marino, that pairs the powdery softness of orris with resins and incense. Everyone who describes it calls it floral and resinous, most add woody, and a third mention amber and citrus.

Mandarin opens it with a brief, sweet-sharp citrus. Then orris root takes over: it is the dried rhizome of the iris, and it smells cool, powdery and faintly of suede, which is where the name comes from. Rose and jasmine give the orris a soft floral body. The resins are the second pillar: frankincense and elemi bring a dry, lemony, church-incense quality, and labdanum a warm, leathery amber. Cedar and patchouli close it with dry wood and a little earth.

It is worn by anyone. The powdery-incense character suits autumn and winter and evening wear, and a person who likes quiet, textured fragrances that smell more like good fabric than like flowers in a vase.
