Basilica, released by Milano Fragranze in 2021 and composed by Violaine Collas, is mainly woody, with gourmand, resinous, aromatic and amber sides in equal support.
The name evokes a church interior, and the scent is built around incense. Rosemary and thyme open it with a dry, aromatic and herbal freshness. In the heart, incense brings a dry, smoky and slightly resinous haze, labdanum a warm, sticky amber, and milk a soft, creamy smoothness, which is where the gourmand side comes from and which softens the smoke. The base is woody and smoky: Virginia cedar and woody notes give a dry structure, and cypriol, also called nagarmotha, an earthy, smoky depth.
Most wearers report moderate longevity, with a good share finding it long-lasting, and the large majority describe its sillage as moderate. It is voted mainly for autumn and winter, and exactly evenly between day and night. It is worn by anyone and suits cooler days, the office and quiet evenings, for people who like incense softened by milk and herbs rather than presented dark and heavy.
