Quai des Lices, a 2014 fragrance from the Italian house Il Profvmo, is woody above all: everyone who describes it says so, while a third each add fresh, floral, aromatic and citrus. It smells like a pine wood by the water.
The opening is cool and sharp: citrus notes give a quick brightness, and eucalyptus adds a camphorous, medicinal freshness that clears the air. Pine tree and pine needles then take over with a resinous, green, slightly sticky woodiness, the smell of a conifer forest after rain. Mimosa adds a soft, powdery, honeyed floral touch in the middle, an unexpected and welcome contrast. The base is darker: tobacco brings a dry, sweet, leafy warmth, and patchouli an earthy, slightly damp depth.
It is worn by anyone. The pine-and-tobacco character suits autumn and winter days outdoors, and a wearer who likes natural, forest-like scents rather than sweet or floral ones.
