Guerlain's La Petite Robe Noire, from 2012 and composed by Thierry Wasser, is a sweet cherry and rose fragrance for women. Gourmand is the first word people reach for, with floral close behind, while a minority also notice spicy, green, woody and citrus touches.
Sour cherry and almond open it, a tart, marzipan-tinged fruitiness brightened by bergamot. The heart is built on rose, with black tea adding a dry, slightly smoky edge and licorice bringing an aniseed sweetness that gives the scent its distinctive, almost confectionery character. The base continues the theme with vanilla and anise for warmth and sweetness, iris for a powdery softness and patchouli for a touch of earth.
Wearers split roughly evenly between long lasting and moderate longevity, and most describe the sillage as moderate, with about a third finding it strong. Autumn and winter take the most votes and night edges out day, so it is best suited to cooler weather and evenings, although it is sweet rather than heavy.
