Goudh by the Dutch brand Fugazzi (2020) is a woody floral in which wood and rose share the lead, with smaller notes of sweetness, resin, amber and leather.

Mandarin orange, black currant and a grapefruit-like material give a juicy, tart opening. The heart is a rich floral layer of Bulgarian rose, jasmine sambac and lily of the valley, by turns velvety, heady and dewy. The base is where the name comes from: agarwood, or oud, brings a dark, dry, slightly smoky wood, joined by patchouli for earthiness, vetiver for a rooty dryness, leather for texture, and benzoin and ambergris for a soft, warm, salty finish.

Goudh is shared and suits anyone. It feels at home in autumn and winter, evenings and special occasions, and should appeal to people who enjoy rose-and-oud pairings with a fruity, modern lift rather than a heavy, traditional style.
