Encounters, composed by Francesca Bianchi for her own house in 2023, is a woody, spiced floral with an animalic base. Wood is what everyone notices; most also find it spicy, floral, amber-like and citrusy, and about a third describe it as sweet.
It opens with bergamot and orange, bright and juicy, with blackcurrant adding tartness, coriander a cool spice and lavender a clean herbal tone. The heart is rose and iris butter, a rich, buttery powder, warmed by cinnamon and given a green, musky edge by angelica. The base is long and dark: sandalwood and cedar for wood, agarwood for resinous depth, Peru balsam and benzoin for sweet, vanilla-like resin, and castoreum with ambergris for a warm, leathery, skin-like animalic note.
Encounters is worn by anyone. By character it is a cool-weather and evening fragrance, complex and a little old-fashioned in its richness, and it suits people who like classic oriental structures with an animalic undertone.
