Gaya

Gaya, composed by Asem Al Qassim for Anfas and released in 2019, is a sweet, spiced woody scent worn by anyone. Everyone who describes it finds it gourmand and woody, two thirds add spicy, and a minority mention floral and amber.

Pear and mango open it, juicy and sweet, with the mango adding a tropical, slightly resinous edge. Cardamom and anise then give the heart a warm, aromatic spice, and liquorice deepens the anise into something darker and sweeter, backed by candy-like sweet notes. Milk adds a creamy softness, and orris root a cool, powdery, rooty elegance that stops the sweetness from being flat. The base is agarwood (oud) and cedar, smoky and dry, with amber adding a warm resinous glow.

The combination of liquorice, milk and oud is unusual and distinctly sweet. It suits cooler weather and evenings, and should appeal to people who like gourmands with spice and a woody, Middle Eastern-leaning base.
