TO BE The King by Police, released in 2013 and composed by Pierre-Constantin Guéros, is a woody fragrance for men. Woody is the accord every wearer names; some also find it spicy and amber, and a minority describe green, aromatic and citrus sides. It is warm and smooth rather than sharp.
The notes are listed together. Lemon and orange blossom give a bright, lightly floral opening, with bay leaf, artemisia and lavender adding a herbal, slightly bitter aromatic edge. Cardamom and nutmeg bring warm spice to the middle. The base is where the character lies: cedar and cashmere wood provide a soft, slightly creamy wood, resins and amber add a sweet, balsamic warmth, and tonka bean rounds it off with a vanilla-like softness.
The combination of soft woods, amber and tonka suits autumn and winter, evenings and everyday smart wear, and it is comfortable in the office as well as out. It will appeal to men who like warm, approachable woody scents in the mainstream style.
