Blow Up from the German house Moth and Rabbit Perfumes, composed by Mark Buxton, is a dark woody leather with smoke, resin and a fruity berry edge. Everyone who describes it calls it woody, and about half also notice spice, gourmand sweetness, resin, amber and leather.
The opening is sharp and unusual: black currant and currant buds give a tart, green, slightly catty fruitiness, absinthe a bitter, herbal edge, and cardamom with saffron a warm spice. The heart is smoky and animalic, with birch bringing a tar-like, leathery smoke, leather a rough texture and civet a warm, musky, skin-like intensity. The base is resinous and woody, with incense, myrrh and labdanum adding a ceremonial, balsamic depth and cedar a dry structure.
It can be worn by anyone and suits people who enjoy bold, unconventional niche fragrances with a raw edge. The smoke, leather and resin point to autumn and winter, evenings and occasions where a distinctive, assertive scent is welcome. Lovers of smoky birch-tar leathers are its likely audience.
