Lemon and bergamot give a bright, fresh opening. The heart is floral and spiced: rose and jasmine bring a velvety and creamy bloom, and carnation a clove-like floral spice. The base has a classic chypre structure: oakmoss gives a damp, earthy bitterness, patchouli and vetiver an earthy, smoky depth, labdanum a honeyed, ambery resin, leather a smooth texture, and vanilla and benzoin a soft, balmy sweetness.
Sawlaj is shared and can be worn by anyone. It suits autumn and spring, evenings, smart occasions and the office, and should appeal to people who like classic floral chypres with a leathery, resinous warmth rather than modern sweet florals.
