Genders, made by Gabriel Gabor for his French house De Gabor in 2019, is a dense, spicy woody fragrance worn by anyone. Everyone who describes it says woody, most say spicy, about two-thirds floral, half citrus, and a third sweet or ambery.
The list of notes is long, and the character comes from the collision. Bergamot and mandarin give a brief citrus lift before clove, cinnamon, caraway and saffron take over with a warm, slightly medicinal spice. Tuberose, jasmine and ylang-ylang supply a heady white-floral core, and hay with tobacco adds a dry, sun-baked sweetness. The base is where it lingers: oud, cedar, sandalwood and Haitian vetiver for wood, incense for smoke, white leather for a smooth animalic edge, and vanilla with tonka bean and ambergris for warmth.
Longevity and sillage have not yet been reported. This is a cold-weather, evening fragrance by nature, suited to someone comfortable with spice and smoke.
