Fiori di Capri is a classic white floral from the Italian house Carthusia, dating from 1948, with Laura Bosetti Tonatto credited as perfumer. Floral is the word everyone uses for it; just under half also call it gourmand, and smaller groups woody, citrusy, spicy or ambery.
The opening is a full flower stall with a citrus edge: gardenia, tuberose, orange blossom and ylang-ylang bring heady, creamy white petals, while bergamot, orange and mandarin keep the first minutes bright. The heart turns warmer and more complex, with carnation and cloves adding a spicy, old-fashioned bite, iris a powdery softness and white honey and plum a mellow sweetness. The base is a traditional chypre-style floor of oakmoss, labdanum, patchouli and sandalwood, with white musk to soften it.
It is shared, worn by anyone who likes a rich, vintage-style floral. The density of flowers and spice suggests evening wear and cooler months; it is not a light, modern transparent scent.
