Anais Anais, released by Cacharel in 1978 and composed by Raymond Chaillan, Robert Gonnon, Paul Leger and Roger Pellegrino, is a tender green floral built around lily. Everyone describes it as floral; about a third also find it woody, and a quarter gourmand, with green, amber and citrus shades noted by a minority.

The opening is dewy and green, with galbanum giving a sharp, stemmy bitterness, hyacinth and honeysuckle a fresh spring sweetness and orange blossom with bergamot a clean lift. The heart is the point of the fragrance: white lily and lily of the valley give a cool, slightly soapy purity, warmed by tuberose, jasmine and rose and softened with orris. The base is quietly classic, as oakmoss and sandalwood add a dry, earthy wood, incense a faint smoke and musk a gentle finish.

Wearers are split between moderate and long lasting, with a moderate to strong trail. It is voted strongly for spring and for daytime. It suits anyone drawn to a soft, old-fashioned lily rather than a modern sweet floral.
