Dating from 2004, Shams Al Emarat Khususi by Ard Al Zaafaran is a rich, spicy woody scent: everyone who describes it calls it woody, and about two-thirds also find it spicy, sweet, musky and floral, with a third adding amber.

The notes are listed together. Mandarin and apple make a fruity, slightly sweet opening. A blend of spices warms the middle, where rose and ylang-ylang supply a full, creamy floral heart. The base is dense: oud and sandalwood give a deep, resinous woodiness, vanilla and amber a warm sweetness, and white musk a soft, lasting finish that smooths the edges.

It is a shared fragrance, worn by anyone. The weight of oud, spice and vanilla points towards cold weather and evenings, and towards someone who wants a traditional, generous woody scent with fruit and flowers on top rather than a fresh or green one. It is sold in a 100 ml bottle.
