Purpose is a woody, spicy composition from Amouage, released in 2023 and composed by Quentin Bisch. Nearly everyone describes it as woody and most add spicy; floral, resinous, leather and citrus facets are noticed by a minority.
It opens with bergamot cut by frankincense, pimento and a mix of black and pink pepper, so the first minutes are peppery and smoky rather than fresh. The heart brings rose against sandalwood, vetiver and papyrus, which give it a dry, papery, slightly earthy texture. The base rests on akigalawood and a saffron-tinged suede, with a soft leathery warmth that lingers.
It is worn by anyone. People report it as long lasting, with about a third calling it eternal, and the sillage is mostly strong.
